It is always interesting to see how gardens we have designed are developing. Yesterday afternoon on our way to a meeting we called in on one of our earlier designs.




The gravel garden still has structural interest even at this time of year. But the real shot in the arm, even on this dank cold day in North Somerset,  are the Cornus.


The secret to this incendiary device is the use of three different Cornus species:

Cornus sanguinea ‘Midwinter Fire’ – its name says it all!

Cornus alba ‘Sibirica’ – crimson

Cornus alba ‘Kesselringii’ – purple black

As with all planting really successful vibrancy is achieved by using depth of tone.
