It was a sunny afternoon this afternoon.

But here in the shade of a Nothopanax and a Daphne the camera needed flash.

What the —- will grow here? Smyrnium perfoliatum!

We love the zesty lemony-lime of its flowers and it does it all so early. But then a lot of the lemon and lime flowered guys seem to.

To 60cm with us, it is moncarpic, so takes 2-3 years to do its stuff and then dies.

Life’s tough!

All is not lost. And its not that complicated.

Just cut the stems when the seed is dried and about to fall and waft them over your woodland borders. You will soon have successive generations on the go.
